Madhavakar or Madhavacharya as he was popularly called was one of the greatest exponents of pathology and diagnosis during the early era.  His great work on Ayurveda, called”Raghuvamshaya” or “Nidana”.was a highly acclaimed piece of work.

This work went in to detail on the causes and symptoms of various diseases. The works of notable latter day exponents of Ayurveda like Vrinda, Varyasena and Chakrapani clearly reveal the great influence exerted by Madhavakar. Apart from Ayurveda, Madhavakar also contributed significantly to the growth and promotion of Hindu religion and philosophy as also astronomy.
